Beets

The winter garden is as lush as ever, carrots, onions, silver beet, leek, celery, broccoli, rhubarb, herbs and what we went searching for on Tuesday, beetroot.

The beautiful red beets, with their bright green and purple leaves are easy to pull, even for the littlest of hands. We sang songs, relocated worms and talked about what to do with all the beets.

The pantry is already overloaded with Fowlers jars full of preserved beets from earlier in the year, so we decided on roasting some for salads and juicing some in the afternoon, a beetroot chocolate cake was also talked about, but I will save that idea for a rainy day.

We juiced the beets with oranges, apple, pineapple, parsley, ginger, zucchini and carrot. The perfect concoction for fighting away any winter bugs that might be about.

I then ran a huge bubble bath and my three washed away their red hands and mouths before drying off in front of the wood fire.

I do love some warm, freshly bathed babes on a winters afternoon.
